Mixing Tips:
Mixing Tips part 1: Isolation

1) If possible, use ReaGate. This plugin was created with triggering as a major design consideration.

2) Open the gate as soon as possible. Lopping off the front of the trigger signal is going to make your sampled sounds come in late, without even getting into how wrong the velocity information will be.

3) If your gate has lookahead, USE IT!

4) Close the gate as soon as possible so as not to create a false flam. Keep it closed till the next hit event (minus #2 above of course)

5) Consider using the Hysteresis controls if your gate has them. Hysteresis is the difference between the on threshold and the off threshold of the gate. Setting a higher off than on threshold can greatly help in avoiding false flams.

6) Use your hipass and lowpass key filters! Listen in key listen or preview mode. Zero in as much as possible to the smallest range of frequencies that most accurately describe the trigger signal. Sometimes you may even need to put a filter like ReaEQ in the sidechain of the gate.
